Problem Statement

The Challenge:

  • Delta faced inefficiencies in managing devices, including inventory tracking, repair monitoring, and real-time device usage visibility.
  • Manual processes led to lost devices, delays, rising costs, and incomplete repair updates.

Objective:

Design a mobile-first solution that:

  1. Simplifies tracking of User-role device sign-ins and sign-outs.
  2. Centralizes inventory and repair status updates through a dashboard interface.
  3. Provides seamless check-in/check-out workflows to optimize operational efficiency.

Research

User Research:

  • Conducted interviews with Delta employees in IT, operations, and repair teams to identify pain points and user needs.

Key Insights:

  • Manual tracking caused increased delays and lost items.
  • Employees needed real-time visibility into device statuses.
  • Fast, intuitive check-in/check-out functionality was critical to save time.

Competitor Analysis:

  • Analyzed existing device management systems and mobile inventory tools for inspiration and benchmarking.

Design Process

User Personas:

  • IT Specialist: Tracks devices and assigns them to employees.
  • Repair Technician: Monitors devices under repair and updates their statuses.
  • Employee: Checks devices in and out for daily use.

User Journey:

  • Mapped workflows for inventory tracking, repair status updates, and check-in/check-out processes to ensure a frictionless experience.

Task Flows:

  • Designed task flows for:
    1. Device check-ins/check-outs.
    2. Adding new devices to inventory.
    3. Updating repair statuses.
